The Market

100_5455The market is such an amazing thing!  I couldn’t get over it!  Everything you can imagine, was for sale there.   The fruits, and vegetables, were so lovely!  The textiles were beautiful.  The meat was…well,  I found the smell a bit much, but it was so interesting!  There were guys around, playing guitars and other instruments. The music outside was fun to listen to, and watch!  Everyone seemed in good spirits and excited to be there, either vending, or shopping!  Juan Luis and I went today for the 2nd part of our class time.  It’s so funny how he is.  We’re walking to the market, and he makes me walk on the inside of the sidewalk, while he was on the outside.  I laughed at him but he was so serious!  He would always stop and let me pass first, when we were weaving in and around in the market.   As I shopped, he would take and carry my bags.  If I was trying to talk or barter with a vender, he would whisper hints, lol, like they couldn’t see or hear him.  He’s such a great guy!  I’m going to miss him, when I go.   Then, after spending 1/2 our time at the market, we get back to school and he gives me 4 homework assignments for tomorrow!  Well I guess everything has it’s price.   It was fun though, and an experience I won’t soon forget!

After school, I had lunch with my “family” then spent the afternoon at the pool at Hotel Antigua again.  Gosh, thats a refreshing thing to do!  I read about 5 more chapters of my book, soaked up some sun, and swam around.  I love that!  So relaxing, and enjoyable.

My host mama is the best cook ever!  It’s amazing what she can do!  I’m still in shock at all that i’m eating here.  I can’t imagine going back home and being picky, ever again!  I have no idea what I’m eating 1/2 the time, I just go for it, and wow!!  Good stuff!

I also havn’t bitten my nails since I’ve been here!  Of course, I’m afraid to. LOL  I don’t want to introduce any bacteria to my mouth!  I’ve been pretty careful, but not neurotic. I’ve only drank bottled stuff…well except for my host mama’s fresh made fruit juice every morning.  I don’t buy stuff off street vendors…well, actually, yes I have.  And it’s always delicious!!    I brush my teeth with bottled water, and  I use Lemon and Thieves that I brought from home, around my room.  I’d say the only thing I do in excess is wash my hands, and use sanitizer when I’m out and about.  And I’ve been fine. :)

I walk to school every day and I see alot of the same people.  The guy at the tienda, the guys at the farmacia, the lady at the panaderia, a lady that walks every morning with an older woman, etc.  Now, after 3 weeks of this, people always greet me now, on the street.  “Buenos dias Senora!”  It’s so neat!  I really am going to be sad to leave.  I’ve really had an absolutely amazing time.  And listen to me!  It’s not over yet!  I plan to enjoy it to the last drop!

I guess I better go get those homework assignments done!   Til next time, blog stalkers!  xoxo
